Observational associations describe patterns in study populations—they do not guarantee the same result for any one person.
Research question
How does moderate and vigorous leisure-time physical activity relate to the outcomes measured in this study?
Participants
661,137 adults with self-reported leisure-time activity
Follow-up
See primary publication for follow-up duration.
Findings
Meeting recommended activity levels (150 min/week moderate or equivalent) was associated with lower mortality; benefits were largest when comparing inactive adults with those meeting guidelines, with possible plateau at higher volumes.
What this means for your lifestyle
Meeting mainstream activity guidelines is a reasonable public-health goal; personalize volume and intensity with professional input when needed.
Limitations
Self-reported activity; pooling heterogeneity; observational.
